MEET MUNIA

NEW LEADERSHIP DELIVERING RESULTS FOR OUR COMMUNITY

Munia Ahmad  first arrived in the United States to pursue a College degree. She attended Indiana University, South Bend and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.

As a young woman attending college, Munia Ahmad took an active role in student life and academics. She was the recipient of Robert Robinson Memorial Award in Accounting. She was also elected into Student Senate and served two terms as a Student Senator at Indiana University, South Bend. Throughout her study as an International Student, she also was the recipient of various leadership and academic scholarships and awards. She served as Vice President of the Honors Program, Treasurer of the International Student Association, a member of Phi Eta Sigma and recipient of Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. She also worked as a Research Assistant to Accounting faculty and teaching Assistant to the Psychology Department and taught English As A Second language (ESL) as a Supplemental Instructor to incoming international students on campus.

She married Sayeef Rahim; a Computer Scientist, living in Richardson, Texas in April 2002. The couple has been living in Allen, Texas since November 2002. Munia Ahmad; a first generation Naturalized Citizen of South Asian origin; initially pursued a career in Banking. However after the birth of her son; Munia switched to a career in Information Technology in order to focus more time to her growing family.

Throughout her career, she has worked for various Fortune 500 Companies from JP Morgan Chase, SouthWest Airlines to CVS Caremark to name a few. She is currently employed by a software development company as an IT Business Analyst. In addition to being a dedicated  wife and a mom to a nine year old who attends Olson Elementary school in Allen, and pursuing a career in IT, she also owns a real estate business and a makeup line. She is well traveled; lived in four countries around the world and speaks four languages.

Munia Ahmad comes from a family involved in philantrophy, social work and public service. Munia Ahmad and her family love living in the City of Allen. She has seen the massive growth that the City has experienced in the last five years. Although many important changes are taking place within the community; residents are not aware of what is happening and voter turnout has been consistently low in all City elections.

Issue

She feels that we need to increase voter participation and generate more interests about community events through the use of social media.

Issue

Allen can greatly benefit from  new corporations. She is a proponent of  creating an IT hub here in Allen  where the City can offer financial incentives to Start up IT Companies to launch their corporate offices. This can generate more revenue for the City and  create more jobs for our citizens.

Issue

As more and more families choose to live in the suburbs like Allen; the traffic situation is getting worse in Allen. We need to revisit the possibility of bringing DART  extension to Allen and also address the possibility of providing alternate means of public transporation for our citizens. Travel time from Allen to Dallas (vice versa)  is getting worse every year.
